Atlas Roof Warranty Explained: Standard vs Signature Select
Every Atlas shingle line carries a Lifetime Limited Warranty on a single-family, site-built detached home, and "lifetime" means the lifetime of the original owner, not the roof. What changes from roof to roof is the Premium Protection period, the years when Atlas pays for both materials and labor. Atlas's standard warranty gives 10 years with no registration. An Atlas Signature Select system warranty raises that to 20 years on StormMaster Shake and 15 years on the Pinnacle lines and ProLam, and adds tear-off and disposal, but only when the roof is built with the required Atlas components and registered within 60 days. Neither warranty covers hail or workmanship, which is why your roofer's own written guarantees matter too.
This guide walks through both Atlas warranties line by line, from Atlas's own residential warranty documents (checked November 8, 2026), so you know what to ask for in writing before you sign.
Lifetime means the owner, not the roof
Atlas says its lifetime coverage lasts for "the lifetime of the original property owner (not the roof)," or the second owner if the warranty was properly transferred. On buildings that are not single-family detached homes, such as commercial or multi-unit buildings, the term is 50 years instead. So a homeowner should never be promised a 50-year Atlas warranty; on a house, it is Lifetime Limited.
"Limited" is the important word. For most of that lifetime the coverage is prorated, meaning Atlas pays a shrinking share of the shingle cost and no labor. The part that really protects you is the non-prorated Premium Protection period at the start.
The standard Atlas warranty
Every Atlas shingle gets the standard Atlas Limited Shingle Warranty automatically. Atlas says registration is not required. Here is what it includes for shingles installed on or after June 1, 2026:
| Shingle line | Premium Protection | Wind limit (15 years) | Algae coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| StormMaster Shake | 10 years | 150 mph | Lifetime (3M Scotchgard) |
| Pinnacle Impact, Pinnacle Sun, Pinnacle Pristine | 10 years | 130 mph with 4 nails | Lifetime (3M Scotchgard) |
| ProLam | 10 years | 130 mph with 6 nails, 110 mph with 4 | 10 years |
Atlas ties the wind coverage to shingles built with its HP42 technology, and the Scotchgard algae coverage requires matching Scotchgard hip and ridge shingles. After the first 10 years, Atlas's algae remedy on the Scotchgard lines becomes the cost of cleaning the affected shingles rather than replacing them.
What Signature Select adds, and what it takes
The Signature Select system warranty is Atlas's upgrade. Atlas says the roof must include Atlas products from four groups:
- An Atlas shingle: StormMaster Shake, Pinnacle Impact, Pinnacle Sun, Pinnacle Pristine or ProLam.
- Matching Atlas hip and ridge: StormMaster Shake requires StormMaster Hip and Ridge.
- Atlas premium underlayment: covering the entire roof deck.
- At least one more Atlas accessory: such as Pro-Cut starter shingles, an Atlas ice and water underlayment, or Atlas ridge or intake ventilation.
Then the warranty has to be registered online or by mail within 60 days of installation, with the invoices for every required Atlas product. Atlas says that if it later finds during a claim that the required products were not installed, coverage drops back to the standard warranty. That is why it pays to see the system components listed on your contract and your invoice.
In return, Atlas says the Premium Protection period becomes:
- 20 years on StormMaster Shake.
- 15 years on Pinnacle Impact, Pinnacle Sun, Pinnacle Pristine and ProLam.
During those years, Atlas says it covers the replacement shingles plus the labor to replace defective ones, and tear-off and disposal when necessary. Atlas also lists wind coverage of up to 160 mph for StormMaster Shake and the Pinnacle lines on a qualifying system, which requires Pro-Cut starter shingles at both the eaves and the rakes; ProLam stays at 130 mph. Wind coverage runs 15 years, and Atlas's remedy for wind is replacement shingles only, not labor.
What neither warranty covers
A shingle warranty covers manufacturing defects. Atlas's documents list a long set of things it does not cover, and these are the ones that matter most in Central Arkansas:
- Hail, tornadoes and wind above the listed limit. Atlas lists these as acts of God. Hail damage is a homeowners insurance matter, not a warranty claim. An impact-rated shingle may qualify for an insurance discount, depending on your insurer, but an impact rating is not a hail warranty.
- Installation that does not follow the instructions on the bundle wrapper.
- Poor attic ventilation. Atlas points to the 1 square foot of net free vent area per 150 square feet of attic floor standard (or 1 per 300 with a vapor barrier or balanced high and low vents). See our attic ventilation page for how we balance intake and exhaust.
- Roof deck, flashing and metal work. Even during Premium Protection, Atlas does not pay for deck repairs, flashing or metal work.
- Foot traffic, deck movement and asphalt cement stains.
Notice what is missing from that list: leaks caused by how the roof was put on. That is the installer's responsibility, and it is the biggest reason to compare roofers' own guarantees, not just shingle brands.
Transferring the warranty when you sell
Atlas allows one transfer to a second owner, within the first 10 years after installation. The new owner applies through Atlas's warranty transfer application within 60 days of the sale and pays a $100 fee. Atlas says the second owner gets the original warranty benefits; the transfer does not restart or extend the term. If the warranty is not transferred, coverage ends when the home is sold.
How to make a claim
- Contact Atlas Consumer Services within 30 days of finding the problem.
- Keep your original proof of purchase. Atlas may ask for photos or two full shingle samples, at the owner's expense.
- Do not have the shingles replaced first. Atlas says repairs made before its approval are at the owner's expense, and claims for shingles replaced before Atlas gets written notice are denied.
- Read the dispute terms. The warranty sends disputes to binding arbitration and waives jury trials and class actions.
Where Patriot's guarantees fit
Patriot Roofing and Restoration is an Atlas PRO+ contractor at the Gold level, and we install Atlas Signature Select roofing systems. One point people often get wrong: the Signature Select warranty comes from installing the full Atlas system and registering it within 60 days, not from the contractor's PRO+ level. Any installer who uses the required components and registers on time can offer it, so ask every roofer whether your quote is a registered Signature Select system.
Atlas covers the shingles. Our written guarantees cover the rest:
- Patriot Leak Free Guarantee: if your new roof leaks or has a workmanship problem, we repair it at no charge for your package term: the 10-year Patriot Leak Free Guarantee on Guardian, 5 years on Defender, 2 years on Shield and 15 years on our Armor metal roof. Acts of God and maintenance issues are excluded.
- No-Blame-Game Guarantee: if your roof fails structurally under the manufacturer's warranty and the manufacturer refuses to honor it, we make the repair. No finger-pointing. The term matches your package.
- 100% Satisfaction Guarantee: if you are not 100% satisfied with your roofing system, we will remove it and return 100% of your investment.
- Apples-to-Apples Guarantee: find a truly comparable system for less later, and we pay the difference plus a $50 bonus.
On a full replacement we also take 250 to 1,000 photos of the work and send you a link to every one, which is the kind of record that helps if a warranty question ever comes up. On all four packages, the manufacturer warranty transfers to one new owner and the Patriot Leak Free Guarantee transfers for its remaining term. Full terms are on our guarantees page, and what every replacement includes is on our roof replacement page.
Questions to ask before you sign
- Which Atlas warranty will my roof carry, standard or Signature Select, and will you put that in writing?
- Which Atlas hip and ridge, underlayment and accessories are on the quote?
- Who registers the warranty, and when will I get the confirmation?
- Does your own guarantee say the roof will not leak, or only "workmanship"? For how many years?
- If Atlas denies a claim, what do you do?

Frequently asked questions
Is the Atlas warranty really lifetime?
On a single-family detached home, yes, but it is a Lifetime Limited Warranty for the original owner, not the life of the roof. Full labor and materials coverage applies only during the Premium Protection period: 10 years standard, or 15 to 20 years with Signature Select.
Do I have to register my Atlas warranty?
Not for the standard warranty. The Signature Select system warranty must be registered within 60 days of installation with proof of purchase for every required Atlas product.
Does the Atlas warranty cover hail damage?
No. Atlas lists hail as an act of God. Hail damage is handled through your homeowners insurance.
Is the Atlas warranty transferable?
Once, to a second owner, within the first 10 years, with a $100 fee paid within 60 days of the sale.
Does a roofer's Atlas PRO+ level change my warranty?
No. Atlas PRO+ levels (Gold, Platinum, Diamond) reflect how much qualifying Atlas product a contractor installs. Your warranty level depends on the system installed and the registration.
