Mayflower is our closest neighbor to the north, about 6 miles from our Maumelle office, a Faulkner County town of 1,984 people at the 2020 Census. Mayflower knows what severe weather can do.
Mayflower after the April 2022 storms
The 2014 tornado is the storm everyone remembers, but April 11, 2022 hit Mayflower too. That night an EF1 tornado began 4 miles east-southeast of town, 2.75-inch hail fell 4 miles north, and 61-knot gusts brought down trees and power lines in Mayflower. Trees blocked I-40 at Exit 134, and the county emergency manager reported homes damaged near Highway 89 and I-40.
Hail that size, from a storm that also dropped trees, is worth a look even if the roof is not leaking. A roof inspection checks the shingles for hail bruising and the slopes under nearby trees for limb damage.
We are 6 miles away in Maumelle.
Mayflower incorporated on March 6, 1928, and Interstate 40 has run through town since 1965 at the southwestern edge of Lake Conway. South of the lake, the Bell Slough Wildlife Management Area has a nature trail finished in the summer of 2000, and in town a magnolia at Center and Miller streets marks the spot where Gena Hathaway ran a canning kitchen in 1933, during the Depression.

Mayflower homes and roof age
Half of Mayflower's homes were built in 1995 or earlier. Any roof put on after the 2014 tornado is now more than ten years old, well into the 15 to 20 years asphalt shingles last in Arkansas.

What homeowners near Mayflower say
Reached out to Patriot over Easter weekend for a leaking roof from the rain we got Saturday. Sean arrived about 10 minutes early for the 8 am appointment on Monday.
I described the issue and his initial diagnosis proved to be correct, lack of sealant around the base of the whirly bird allowing water to come in. He corrected the problem on all 3 before the appointment was even over. That's what I call Super Service. Thank you Sean and thank you Patriot Roofing!
If you want real honest roofing company and one that will be there if ever needed, Patriot Roofing is that company. They did an amazing job and have been there for any questions we’ve had. It’s about time there is a roofing company you can count on. Thank you Patriot Roofing!!!
We had hail damage to our roof and siding. Patriot was great to work with and helped me step through the insurance claim process. They are good with follow up questions and stand behind their work. Good solid company and will use them again for sure!

Roofing questions from Mayflower
My house near Highway 89 and I-40 came through the April 2022 storm. Should I still have the roof checked?
If no one has been on it since, yes. The National Weather Service recorded 61-knot gusts in Mayflower and homes damaged near Highway 89 and I-40 that night, with 2.75-inch hail 4 miles north of town. Wind can lift and crease shingles without an obvious leak.
We live near Lake Conway. Does the 2019 flood affect our roof?
The 2019 flood, when Palarm Creek ran backward over the Lake Conway dam and the lake spilled into neighborhoods, was rising water, not a roof problem. Patriot Roofing does not do flood or interior water restoration; we inspect and repair storm damage to roofs, gutters and siding.
We live in River Plantation. Was it in the 2014 tornado's path?
Yes. The Weather Service's aerial survey shows the tornado crossed the Arkansas River and cut a swath through the River Plantation subdivision southwest of Mayflower, and several homes there were destroyed. If your house was rebuilt or re-roofed afterward, an inspection will tell you how much life that roof has left.
Has Mayflower had hail since the April 2022 storm?
Yes. StormerSite's compilation of Weather Service reports lists 1.5-inch hail 3.9 miles from Mayflower on July 12, 2022, and half-dollar hail 1.6 miles from town on April 16, 2024. If your roof has not been checked since either storm, a roof inspection will show whether it took hits.
