Scott is a rural, unincorporated community that straddles the Pulaski and Lonoke county line about 21 miles from our Maumelle office. The 72142 ZIP code had 2,385 residents at the 2020 Census.
Open farmland, oxbow lakes and the 2024 microburst
Scott is flat Arkansas River bottomland, with farm fields and oxbow lakes such as Bearskin, Horseshoe and Willow Beach left behind by old river channels. On April 8, 2024 that open ground mattered: a National Weather Service survey found a microburst formed over Old River Lake and spread northwest into the Craig Road and Burns Road community with winds near 90 mph.
The survey found several homes there lost metal siding and roofing, numerous outbuildings were heavily damaged or destroyed, and many large trees were uprooted. After a wind event like that, the things to check are lifted or missing metal panels, loose fasteners and trim, and shingles creased or torn off on the side that faced the wind. Our roof inspection covers all of them.
The community takes its name from John Scott, who arrived in 1844, and the Cotton Belt railroad came through in 1871 with a depot first called Scott's Station. Two state parks keep that history: the Plantation Agriculture Museum, open since 1989 in a 1912 brick building, holds its Antique Tractor and Engine Show the first Saturday after Labor Day, and Plum Bayou Mounds preserves mounds built more than 1,000 years ago beside Mound Pond. All Souls Church dates to 1905, and Scott Elementary is part of the Pulaski County Special School District.

How old are Scott roofs?
Half of the homes in the 72142 ZIP code were built in 1994 or earlier. Rural roofs take wind differently than roofs in a subdivision: there is less to block it, and tall trees overhead mean limbs and debris. Both are worth checking for after every storm.

Roofing questions from Scott
We are off Craig Road and the 2024 microburst took some of our metal roofing. Can you repair metal as well as shingles?
Yes. The National Weather Service found homes in the Craig Road and Burns Road area lost metal siding and roofing in that April 8, 2024 microburst. Patriot Roofing repairs and replaces both metal and shingle roofs, and we repair siding.
Our house is on the National Register like Marlsgate or Land's End. Do you work on historic homes?
Scott has several National Register properties, including Marlsgate, Land's End Plantation and the All Souls Church building. If your home is listed, check with the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program before changing roofing materials, and we will plan the job around what they tell you.
Have tornadoes hit the farm country around Scott?
They have. NWS Little Rock Storm Data lists an EF1 tornado on March 9, 2019 that destroyed two mobile homes on Scruggs Road in southeast Pulaski County and continued into Lonoke County past Toltec.
Did hail fall in Scott in 2026?
Yes. StormerSite's compilation of Weather Service reports lists quarter-size hail at Scott on May 31, 2026. Hail that size often leaves bruises you cannot see from the ground, so if your roof has not been looked at since, a roof inspection will tell you whether it took damage.
