Sherwood, with 32,731 people at the 2020 Census, sits just north of North Little Rock about 11 miles from our Maumelle office. It has been on the path of the area's worst tornadoes more than once.
Sherwood grew fastest in the 1970s and 1980s, and its roofs show it
Sherwood went from 2,754 people in 1970 to 18,893 in 1990, and in 1990 it was named the fastest-growing town in Arkansas by both population and land area. A City of Sherwood planning report found that about 32% of homes were built between 1960 and 1979 and another 37% between 1980 and 1999. Put plainly, roughly seven in ten Sherwood homes date from those four decades, and most of them have already been through at least one reroof.
The city keeps changing shape too. Gravel Ridge voted 632 to 221 in April 2008 to join Sherwood, and from 2015 to 2017 Sherwood built more single-family homes than any metro city other than Little Rock. So a Sherwood street can mix a 1970s ranch on its second roof with a much newer house still on its first.
