Cabot is Lonoke County's largest city, with 26,569 people at the 2020 Census, about 23 miles northeast of our Maumelle office. It has seen some of the biggest hail in our service area in recent years.
Cabot tripled in thirty years, so many of its roofs are the same age
Cabot went from 4,806 people in 1980 to 15,261 in 2000 and 23,776 in 2010, and in 2009 BusinessWeek called it one of Arkansas's boomtowns. Growth that fast means whole subdivisions went up within a few years of each other, and their original roofs are now aging out together. The 2020 Census counted 10,637 homes in Cabot, with almost 94% of them occupied.
Cabot has a long memory for storms. The March 29, 1976 tornado killed five people and did millions of dollars in damage, and the city started CabotFest two years later to celebrate the recovery. The storms have not stopped: in April 2022 alone, NWS Little Rock logged a 61-knot gust that knocked out power to parts of Cabot and hail up to quarter size near Greystone.
