A storm has hit; how do I know if I have storm damage?
Our roofing contractors Maumelle, AR homeowners trust have gathered a few tips to keep in mind when dealing with potential storm damage.
The Positive of Obvious Storm Damage
It may not feel like it, but it’s better when storm damage is visible than when it’s not. The sooner you can catch the damage, the sooner it can be handled. Obvious signs include missing or damaged shingles. This may not seem like a big problem, but now the elements can reach the inner layers of the roof. Storm, debris, and sun damage are in your future if you leave these problems to fester.
Look in Your Attic After a Big Storm
Roof damage isn’t always visible on the outside. Hidden damage caused by hail, debris, and high-force winds is a silent killer, causing more damage over time. So, it’s imperative that you check your attic for any signs of storm damage as soon as possible. These damages show up often as leaks or water damage. Check the ceiling of your attic for any water stains or even on the walls in the case of drips. Paint bubbling on your wall can also be a sign of water damage underneath. Water doesn’t seem like a big problem, but it could lead to much larger and more expensive issues. Not correcting a drip from your roof makes for a perfect breeding ground for mold, wood rot, termites, and pests in general. Also, too much water dripping onto your ceiling insulation can cause the ceiling to fall in. Do yourself a favor and check your attic after every big storm.
Catching damage before it causes more problems will save you time and money in the future. Unfortunately, damage may not always be so obvious. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there. The only way to be sure is to let the pros at Patriot Roofing & Restoration conduct a thorough assessment. Save yourself the headache and aggravation down the road by catching it early!
What is a roofing insurance supplement?
An insurance claim supplement corrects the Scope of Loss (sometimes referred to as an insurance estimate) where items are omitted, overlooked, underpaid, or discovered after the adjuster’s initial assessment. Supplementing a claim is allowable, and insurance companies want the initial supplement request submitted and approved before work begins on the project. There also may be items that need to be repaired or replaced that are not noticed until after work has started. If this happens, a second supplement will be submitted.
At Patriot Roofing & Restoration, our main goal is to do the job according to the manufacturer’s specifications and local and state building code requirements. Based on the review of your insurance carrier’s assessment and financial offer, we will work directly with your insurance carrier to ensure that all work is completed correctly. We will identify each item to be supplemented, write an explanation, and support our findings with pictures. Not every item may be approved. For that matter, it can vary from adjuster to adjuster and insurance company to insurance company.
As the homeowner, your involvement in the process is key to ensuring that the insurance company pays for everything that needs to be repaired or replaced. Your involvement ensures that all you have to pay is your deductible. Once the insurance company approves a supplement you will receive a notification and a new or revised Scope of Loss from your insurance company. Payment of the supplement may come as additional checks from your insurance company to be paid to your roofing contractors in Maumelle, AR.
Should I replace my roof before I list my home?
Can I replace the roof myself?
While some DIY home projects turn out fine, roofing is not one of them. Each year more than 10,000 Americans die from falls in the home, many of which come from tumbles off of roofs and ladders while doing repairs or maintenance, making it the most dangerous DIY project you can do. Plus, you are violating your roof’s warranty and negating coverage of any future repairs.
Calling a professional roofing contractor to correct DIY mistakes can lead to costly bills. A DIY roof replacement job compared to an experienced team of professional roofing contractors Maumelle, AR trusts at Patriot Roofing & Restoration warrants a higher risk for issues with incorrectly installed shingles, holes, code items, and manufacture specifications, along with aesthetics and quality.
What roofing materials should I use?
The shape and style of your roof will determine whether you need shingles, built-up roofing, or metal roofing, among other forms of roofing. Your budget or insurance coverage may determine what type of roofing material you use. At Patriot Roofing & Restoration, we only use industry-recommended materials so you can be assured your roof will be protected.
If you want to upgrade from a 25-year shingle to a Limited Lifetime shingle, we can help you with that. Maybe you want to upgrade to a Class 3 Impact Resistant shingle; we can give you those options too. If you want to save money on your insurance premiums, we can give you our recommendations. It’s important to understand that your roofing system materials consist of more than shingles. In addition to shingles, there’s decking, drip edge, ice and water barrier, underlayment, flashing, and ventilation as well as other materials depending on what type of roofing system you have. At Patriot Roofing & Restoration, we will recommend the best quality materials and offer a 5-year Patriot Shield leak-free guarantee, no matter what kind of roofing system is on your house, every “shingle” time!
Will a new roof lower my energy bills?
What are these insurance terms: RCV, Deductible, ACV, and Depreciation?
Deciphering an insurance claim takes experience and knowledge that most homeowners find stressful. Common terms such as “ACV,” “RCV,” “Deductible,” and “Depreciation” are often puzzling to people who don’t handle insurance claims regularly. At Patriot Roofing & Restoration, we want our customers to have full clarity about their insurance claims and to acquire the necessary knowledge to make confident decisions about their property restoration needs. There are a few things that should help you understand the insurance jargon, and we will attempt to explain RCV, Deductible, ACV, and Depreciation.
1. RCV (Replacement Cost Value): When you see RCV in the roofing insurance claim paperwork, this is the total cost of repairs to be done or what it would cost to repair the damage.
2. Deductible: This amount is your out-of-pocket responsibility to pay. The insurance company will deduct this amount from your ACV check, and you are responsible for paying the deductible to your contractor.
3. ACV (Actual Cost Value): The ACV is the amount that the insurance company has determined the damaged property is actually worth. This is the first check you will receive (minus your deductible). Note: If you have an ACV-only policy, this is the only amount you will receive. How is ACV calculated? RCV – Depreciation – Deductible = ACV check
4. Depreciation: If you have an RCV policy, this amount will either be sent with the ACV check or after the project is complete, depending on your insurance company’s process. How is Depreciation calculated? RCV – ACV – Deductible = Depreciation check
Supplement Items are items overlooked by the insurance adjuster 0n the claim. Your contractor will submit a supplement to the insurance company in regard to receiving more funds to complete the work appropriately. For example, let’s say your roof is 2,000 square feet, but the adjuster mistakenly only allowed for 1,800 square feet. The contractor would then submit the supplement for the remaining 200 square feet of shingles, underlayment, and other materials. Once the supplement is approved, the insurance company will issue an additional (3rd) check to the homeowner, or in some cases, will add the supplement total to the Depreciation (2nd) check.
We hope this helped in explaining RCV, Deductible, ACV, and Depreciation when concerning an insurance claim. If you have additional questions, please contact our roofing company Maumelle, AR homeowners rely on.
Do you waive my deductible?
The truthful answer is NO. Many find that your average roofing company all too often offers to “waive” or “absorb” the deductible from an insurance claim, thus committing insurance fraud. This offense is punishable on a state jail felony scale, and by default would incriminate the homeowner as well. It is illegal so don’t be fooled!
Nevertheless Patriot Roofing & Restoration is committed to doing everything we can to help with the cost through legal means. We strongly caution to not do business with a contractor claiming they can eliminate or absorb a deductible. Transparency and honesty should come first!
